RADIO COMMENTARY FOR OSSETT UNITED

Throughout the 2019/20 football season, I was doing radio commentary for Ossett United Football Club. This one year commentary boosted my self confidence, my diction and all-round vocal skills. The 'comms' allowed me to express my journalist skills in a new and different way to the usual print pieces I have created.

MATCH REPORTS

As well commentating on football to a vast and wide live audience, I wrote match reports on occasion for the club as well. These were published both on the club's website and matchday programmes. On several occasions they also went into the local papers such as The Batley Press and Wakefield Express.

MATCH PREVIEWS: VAVEL

During the 2019/20 season I also began to work for online newspaper VAVEL. The site, which is accessed and viewed by millions daily across the globe boasts itself as the first and best online newspaper from Spain. It has won awards for its content on several occasions. I began to write match previews on their platform in 2019, and to this day still write both previews and reports across many leagues.

Personal Profile

For me personally, the motivation and desire to succeed is more valuable than overall achievements. I regard myself highly, with the upmost need for success. However, my skills and knowledge of new technologies and platforms enables me to create and design unique and interesting pieces, which is transcended through my experience working for my college’s in-house newspaper/magazine. I also work for Ossett United Football Club as a graphic designer, creating a range of things for a vast number of social platforms, as well as Radio commentary on matchdays. I also work for VAVEL, the online newspaper, creating previews for football matches.

Not to mention, my high value academia and degree level course at The University of Huddersfield.

Relevant Experience

2016 – 2017

Sports Editor, Loughbrough college magazine (Record)

During my A-levels I was heavily involved with my college’s magazine, where my responsibilities included sports reporting. I was the Sports Editor for the magazine, which involved writing up the stories and editing them into the magazine. I received several congratulations for many pieces within the magazine, especially for my feature article on Leicester City winning the Premier League.

2012 – 2012

Digital design, Shobnall leisure complex

During the GCSE years, I did a few weeks work at a leisure complex doing some digital design pieces for advertising. These pieces were of a decent standard and were used to entice viewership to the complex to watch several sporting events.

2019- present

Graphic design and Radio commentary, Ossett United F.C

Whilst continuing my studies, I decided to continue my work experiences by joining the media team at Ossett United Football club. I quickly became heavily involved, creating graphics for the club, as well as match reports for the programme and nearby newspaper. I also do radio matchday commentary home and away which has earned over 17,500 ‘listens’.
